Maryśka Connolly-Brown, Serials Resources Librarian and embedded librarian in the College of Allied Health Sciences, has received the State or Regional Exhibiting Award from the National Libraries of Medicine Southeastern/ Atlantic Region (NN/LM SEA). She will use the $1,447 award to attend the Georgia Society for Respiratory Care Summer Meeting in Savannah at the end of July. This award gives her the opportunity to exhibit NN/LM resources such as Medline Plus, Tox Town, and the Household Products Database that can be used by respiratory therapists to engage and educate their patients (especially children and families) about common respiratory ailments, medical terminology, symptoms and treatments, and awareness of environmental air pollutants. On average, the Summer Meeting hosts 150+ respiratory therapists in hospitals and with home care companies, managers of respiratory and cardiopulmonary services, and educators who provide respiratory care training.
Kim Mears, Nursing Information Librarian, has received an Express Training Award from the National Network of the Libraries of Medicine Southeastern/Atlantic Region. She will partner with Dr. Sandra Inglett, faculty in the GRU College of Nursing and Director of the Enterprise Community Healthy Start (ECHS) initiative, to provide training to nurses, social workers, and public librarians in Burke and McDuffie counties. The ECHS focuses their efforts on improving the adequacy of prenatal care, educating patients, and monitoring and managing high-risk African-American patients to reduce infant mortality rates. Training will focus on accessing and evaluating health information resources that are appropriate for consumers with low health literacy skills. All nurses in attendance will receive Georgia Nursing Association Continuing Education credit.
Peter Shipman, Dental Medicine and Cancer Librarian, has received two State or Regional Exhibiting Awards from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine Southeastern/Atlantic Region. The exhibit funds will promote National Library of Medicine products at the South Carolina Oncology Society annual meeting in Charleston, South Carolina and at the Health and Wellness Expo at the Augusta Convention Center.
