Promoting Values Week at Augusta University Libraries

The Augusta University Libraries will collaborate on two displays to support Values Week at the beginning of November.

Values Week, which takes place at all University System of Georgia institutions, works to promote an ethical culture and utilize shared institutional values.

Both Greenblatt and Reese Libraries will have displays throughout the week of November 4 to focus on the core values: excellence, integrity, accountability, respect and disability awareness.

At Reese Library, a book display will showcase works by and about people with disabilities. It will showcase stories, viewpoints and accomplishments that “celebrate the diversity of the disability community.” The goal of the display is to promote awareness, inclusion and understanding.

Greenblatt and Reese Libraries will have book displays for Values Week. In addition, Greenblatt has a whiteboard for students to interact with. Wil Petty/AU Libraries

Meanwhile, the Testing and Disability Services Department located at Greenblatt will have a whiteboard encouraging students to reflect on the core values. Each day questions such as “How can we show integrity by celebrating the strengths of all students, including those with disabilities?” or “How can we be accountable for making sure everyone’s abilities are valued and respected?” will be posted on the board, and students will have the opportunity to provide answers on the whiteboard. The board will be located on the first floor of Greenblatt. In addition, Greenblatt will also have books on display.

Examples of books that will be shown at Reese include “We’re Not Broken: Changing the Autism Conversation” by Eric Garcia and “Year of the Tiger” by Alice Wong. At Greenblatt, some of the books include “Schizophrenia Genesis” by Irving I. Gottesman and the American Medical Association’s “Essential Guide to Depression.”
