Featured Journal for February

AARIn celebration of Black History Month, Reese Library’s featured journal is the African American Revue.  This award winning journal is published quarterly by Saint Louis University and is the official publication of the Division on Black American Literature and Culture of the Modern Language Association. Its content includes essays on African American literature, theatre, film, the visual arts, and culture; interviews; poetry; fiction; and book reviews.

Previous contributors include Rita Dove and Toni Morrison and the current edition (Winter 2011) contains an article about Dave the Potter and poems by Sarah Stewart and Anthony Carlton Cooke.  A recent reviewer remarked that “what makes AAR stand out isn’t race but heritage. Its rich mixture of texture and tone is a welcome antidote to the cultural amnesia that prevails in [many] magazines….”

African American Review is currently available online through Reese Library.  For more information about this journal or any other in our collection, contact Melissa Johnson, Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian, at mjohns69@gru.edu or 706-667-4907.
