May is National Military Appreciation Month!

SubCvrTo commemorate National Military Appreciation Month, the featured journal for May is MHQ: The Quarterly Journal of Military History. In addition to United States military campaigns, MHQ covers a wide array of military battles from various parts of the world over the past 5,000 years.

MHQ has provided extensive coverage of the American Civil War and both World Wars. The current issue, Spring 2013, includes an article from Christine Ammer discussing some of the slang terms derived during the Korean Conflict which are still in use today. There is also Gavin Mortimer’s telling of the World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Barney Ross’s rise to glory, first combatting opponents in the boxing ring and then combatting enemies as a Marine during World War II.

Since 1988, MHQ has been published four times per year by the Society for Military History. It is available electronically through Reese Library’s A to Z Journals List.
