Reese Library awards Kids University Scholarships

IMG_9901The employees of Reese Library awarded Georgia Regents University Kids University scholarships to two deserving children from the Augusta area yesterday.

Dr. Paulette Harris, GRU Literacy Center director and Cree-Walker Endowed Chair in the Department of Educational Leadership, Counseling, and Special Education, Mr. Harold Benge, and others selected the students for their commitment to the Literacy Center and their ties to the GRU community.

The library hosted a reception to honor the children and presented them award certificates and prize packages of school supplies and summer essentials. Ms. Arlene Schler, GRU Senior Program Coordinator for Professional and Community Education, was on hand to help the students select their summer Kids University classes.

This is the fourth consecutive year Reese Library employees have provided scholarships for local children. This program is part of the library workers’ goal to promote literacy initiatives in the K-12 community.
