Lost Book Returned 48 Years Later

An email received on the Greenblatt Library’s reference account stated, “I was stationed at Fort Gordon during 1970 and 1971.  During that time, I often went to the library on base and apparently at Augusta College, as stored away in my basement, I recently discovered a book marked “LIBRARY Augusta College, Augusta, Georgia”.  Additional identification is, PS1322, S45, 1948.  The book is 1601 Conversation As It Was by Clemens.  The book is in very good condition.  I do not recall how I obtained this book but do wish to return it, assuming what was Augusta College is now Augusta University. If you would provide me the appropriate mailing address, I will return it as soon as possible.” As promised, the patron returned the book to Reese Library – two weeks after the email, but 48 years after the due date.
