Jeff Heck, Associate Director of Reese Library, is the winner of the 2012 Georgia Library Association (GLA) Bob Richardson Memorial. This award, presented to Jeff on October 4, 2012, was established by the Association’s Executive Board in 1999 in recognition of Bob Richardson’s dedicated service to the Georgia Library Association. This award goes to a person who has made significant contributions to GLA through unselfish, dedicated service to the organization, requiring extensive investment of time and effort. Jeff has been involved with New Members Round Table, the Handbook Committee, the Scholarship Committee, and Georgia Library Quarterly (GLQ) throughout his years in GLA.
His contributions to the GLQ as editor garnered the most praise from fellow librarians from around the state in their nominating documents. Sarah Steiner of Georgia State University noted “As Editor, he skillfully manages the journal, edits content, organizes a group of editors, secures readers for various submissions, ensures that deadlines are met, and… neatly ties up the final package for digital delivery.” Prior to serving as Editor, Jeff worked with Susan Cooley as the GLQ Associate Editor and served for years as a dedicated Editorial Board member. “In all of these roles, Jeff has been highly attentive to and respectful of the needs of even the most demanding library readers. Jeff consistently makes genuine effort to gain consensus and make user-centric decisions.”
Since 2010, Heck has been the associate director of Reese Library. He currently serves on the Consolidation Working Group and is the Co-Chair of the Consolidation Governance Work Team
