The Augusta University Libraries would like to congratulate and recognize Tonya Dority on her recent promotion to Assistant Professor.

Dority, who is the Collection Management Librarian, recently completed the professional requirements to move from Instructor to Assistant professor.
“It’s something that you hope to achieve,” Dority said, in reference to the promotion. “I can breathe a little easier now. I am glad I went through the process.”
Dority, who works at Reese, found out in Spring 2025 that she was eligible for the promotion. The workload involved with the promotion also required other activities such as joining committees.
She said those were actions she would normally take, making the decision to go up for promotion easier. For instance, Dority said she has been a member of the GIL Cataloging Committee since 2022.
“That (GIL Committee) membership along with other cataloging activities have influenced my work,” she said.
Dority received her B.A. in. history from Clark Atlanta University and her MS in Library and Information Science from Simmons College in Boston. She was also the recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Award for the University Libraries in 2023.
