Introducing the New Augusta University Research Portal

The look and feel of the AU Research Pure Portal will be changing on October 5th. We expect this update to have minimal impact on your usual workflows, and no immediate action is required. However, there are a few important updates and changes you should be aware of as we transition to the new portal experience.

What is staying the same?

  • All data will continue to be added and managed in AU Research Pure as it is today. There is no need to re-enter any existing data.
  • The URLs for the AU Research Pure pages will remain the same. If you have previously shared a page URL, you do not need to update it.

What is changing?

The new design brings several improvements to the Augusta University research portal, making profiles more engaging and content easier to discover. These enhancements can help increase visibility, encourage collaboration, and create opportunities for new connections.

Improved Content Showcasing Capabilities

  • Multimedia content: You will be able to add YouTube and Vimeo links and classify them as Portal Multimedia to display video content on your profile.
  • Highlight specific content: such as patents or conference contributions, can be highlighted separately on a person’s profile. Your Pure Administrator manages these options through the page template, so you can discuss your preferences with them to determine what works best.
Please note: The same template is used for all profiles of the same type.

Improved Search Experience

The new portal will provide a more streamlined search experience, making it easier to find relevant research, people, and content.

  • Unified search: Search will no longer be divided between fingerprint concepts and other fields. The new search function works across all indexed fields, providing a more complete set of results. You can still search specifically for fingerprint concepts by using filters.
  • More filtering options: Additional filters across content types will make it easier to narrow your search and find the information you need.
  • Easier filtering: Filter options will appear as you type, making it easier to find and select the options you need.

NEXT STEPS

You do not need to take any action. The content currently in AU Pure research will continue to appear in the new Portal. However, to make the most of the new design and improve your profile’s visibility, we recommend the following:

  1. Keep your profile description up to date. Pay particular attention to your Research Interests description, as it appears at the top of your profile and contributes to your fingerprint. We recommend a description of approximately 250–300 words.
    • Ensure no images are embedded into text descriptions.
    • No HTML/CSS code should be present in the descriptions.
    • Any styling of the text (i.e. bold, italic, etc.) should be done with the built-in editor tools, otherwise it might not display correctly.
  2. Make sure your images have a category assigned. Images without a category cannot be displayed on the Portal. Find out more about the recommended image sizes.
  3. Add relevant identifiers such as ORCID, Scopus ID’s and others applicable identifiers to your records. These identifiers can help facilitate automated data population into Pure and improve the discoverability of your profile.
Note: You can make these updates now; there is no need to wait for the new Portal design.

Keeping your information accurate, current, and complete will help your profile perform better in search results and make it easier for others to discover your research. Unique text descriptions can also improve visibility in both search engines and AI-powered search tools.
