The Augusta University Libraries are proud to host an exhibit displaying the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association’s long history in Augusta, Georgia. Featured in the display are a timeline and colorful photos showcasing the many community events and celebrations the CCBA has participated in since they were first chartered in 1927.
On August 5, 2022, the CCBA was approved to become the first Asian organization in Georgia to receive a historical marker from the Georgia Historical Society. The CCBA is hosting a dedication ceremony for the marker on May 19, 2023, at 11 a.m. at 548 Walker St., Augusta, GA 30901. The event will feature speeches from Carla Wong, the first Chinese-American Supreme Court Justice for Georgia, Elyse Butler, Marker Manager of the Georgia Historical Society, and Dr. Ray Rufo, the first Chinese-American to graduate dental school in Georgia. There will be traditional performances with drums and cymbals afterward, then refreshments and a pictorial history of the CCBA.
