The Robert B. Greenblatt, MD Library is currently hosting a traveling exhibit on loan from the National Library of Medicine. The Care & Custody: Past Responses to Mental Health exhibit examines the historical treatment of mental health conditions in the United States. It begins with the asylums and institutions that were established in the 19th century to care for those suffering with mental health illness and concludes with the development of community health centers in the mid-20th century.
On Thursday, January 25, 4:30-5:30pm a panel discussion regarding the history of mental health will be held in the Historical Collections and Archives room (AB-2113). Dr. Wendy Turner, Professor in the Pamplin College Department of History, Anthropology and Philosophy, and Dr. Vaughn McCall, the Department Chair of Psychiatry and Health Behavior, will be two of the panelists.
An online complementary exhibit hosted by the NLM includes a digital gallery and educational resources. The physical exhibit is on the first floor of the Greenblatt Library until January 27, 2024.
