In December, the Augusta University Libraries will begin its transition to a new integration system called FOLIO, short for the “Future Of Libraries Is Open.”

The change was originally supposed to occur in July, however, the University System of Georgia (USG) schools agreed to push back due to technical issues. For three weeks in late June and early July, GIL-Express was offline. As of Monday, July 7, those services are back up and running.
Librarians will be able to continue serving students, staff, faculty and other patrons through the current system for the time being.
When the transition to FOLIO formally starts, some services will be frozen while others will be limited.
The USG Libraries with GALILEO opted to move from the current system to FOLIO in 2023. According to a release from EBSCO at the time, “FOLIO represents a significant advancement in library technology, including meaningful improvements such as integrations, record formats, and discoverability. FOLIO’s growing community of librarians actively enhances the platform while supporting traditional resource management functionality that can be extended into emerging areas. FOLIO is designed to be flexible, allowing librarians to choose their preferred applications and workflow needs.”
All 86 libraries within the USG system’s 26-school system and the Georgia Archives will be transitioning to FOLIO.
