April is Diversity Awareness Month

diversityApril is designated as “Diversity Awareness Month” and Georgia Regents University is known for its commitment to diversity.  In fact, GRU received the 2013 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award and the 2014 Award for Diversity and Inclusion by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association.

To celebrate diversity, the Journal of the Month for April is the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education.  It is published quarterly through a joint effort between the American Psychological Association (APA) and the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education.  It contains “empirical research, literature reviews, and evaluations of promising practices and policies that support efforts to transform institutions, inspire colleagues, engage campus, governmental, and private sector leaders, and articulate culturally competent outcomes.” The March 2014 edition contains a study by Marla Delgado-Guerrero, Mayra Cherniack, and Alberta Gloria about the benefits of undergraduate women of color joining sororities.  There is also an article entitled, “Enabling Possibility: Women Associate Professors’ Sense of Agency in Career Advancement,” by Aimee LaPointe Terosky, KerryAnn O’Meara, and Corbin Campbell.

The Journal of Diversity in Higher Education is currently available online through GRU Libraries.  For more information about this journal or any other in our collection, contact Melissa Johnson, Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian, at mjohns69@gru.edu or 706-667-4907.
