Reese Library is hosting a zinemaking workshop in conjunction with The Great Speckled Bird exhibit on April 23, 2014 from 11 am to 1 pm in the JSAC breezeway. Come and learn how to make your own piece of the underground press.
So what is a zine? One of the best definitions comes Barnard College’s Zine Library:
“Short for magazine or fanzine, zines are self-publications, motivated by a desire for self-expression, not for profit.”
Much like The Great Speckled Bird, many zines participate in the tradition of political engagement and activism. But zines are an open format and can be (and are!) about any topic—race, gardening, anarchy, fandom, art, etc. And they are easy to make—all you need is paper, pen, a copier, and a stapler to be on your way. So, please come join us in the JSAC breezeway in front of Reese Library on April 23to learn about zines and to draw, write, cut, and paste what’s on your mind.
