Eight members of University Libraries attended the 14th annual GIL Users Group Meeting (GUGM) on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Middle Georgia State College, Macon Campus. Attendees were Peter Shipman, Steven Shelton, and Matt Atkinson of the Robert B. Greenblatt, M.D. Library, and Erin Prentiss, Jennifer Putnam, Thomas Weeks, Melissa Johnson, and Virginia Feher of the Reese Library. The conference provided an “opportunity for institutions using the Voyager ILS to gather and exchange information with their peers.”
The keynote speaker was Dr. Houston Davis, Vice Chancellor of the University System of Georgia, who noted the advancements made in the Complete College Georgia initiative within the past year. He specifically mentioned GRU’s “4 Years 4 U” program and stressed the importance of providing Georgians “affordable high quality options” in education.
After the keynote, participants attended sessions about GIL Express and Interlibrary Loan, GALILEO’s Discovery search tool, the expanding role of Access Services, inventory and withdrawal processes from other universities, highlights on Ex Libris Voyager 9 release, and an update on the Next Generation Library System being planned for the state.
During the lunch break, several attendees toured the MGSC library to see what services are being provided there and to gather ideas to bring back to the GRU Libraries.
